These terms set out how tutoring with KARA TEACH works with regards to booking, payment, cancellations, and a few practical and legal points. They’re written to be read, not just filed away. If anything here is unclear before you book, please just ask.

KARA TEACH is operated by Jonatan Kara, based in Dietikon, Switzerland (full address: Webereistrasse 3, 8953 Dietikon). Contact: contact@karatea.ch.

1. Who these terms are between

These terms form an agreement between KARA TEACH (“I”, “me”) and the person booking lessons (“you”).

Where the student is under 18, the booking is made by, and the agreement is with, a parent or legal guardian. The parent or guardian is responsible for payment and for agreeing to these terms on the student’s behalf.

2. Booking and confirmation

You can arrange a free introductory call before booking to discuss the student’s situation, goals, and whether I’m the right fit. There’s no obligation to book after it.

A lesson or package is confirmed once payment has been received (see section 4). Until then, a requested time is held provisionally but not reserved.

3. Where lessons take place

Lessons are available online, via video call, anywhere in Switzerland or in person, in the Zurich area at your home, in a suitable public study space such as a library, or at my home by prior arrangement.

3.1 Standard service area

In-person lessons at the standard rate cover the city of Zurich (postcodes 8000–8099) and the adjacent municipalities Schlieren and Dietikon with postcodes 8952–8953. As a rough guide, this corresponds to ZVV fare zone 110 and 154.

3.2 Choosing the location

The location does not need to be fixed for a whole package. It can be chosen lesson by lesson (online, in person at an agreed place, or a mix across the package). Please confirm the location for each in-person lesson at least 48 hours in advance, so I can plan travel and confirm any travel supplement. If a location isn’t confirmed by then, the lesson may be held online instead.

3.3 Travel supplement beyond the standard area

For in-person lessons outside the standard area, a travel supplement applies. The supplement is a flat fee set by band, based on the total return public-transport travel time between Dietikon train station and the lesson location, calculated from scheduled SBB timetables when the location for a lesson is confirmed:

Travel beyond standard area (return)Supplement per lesson
Within standard areaIncluded
up to 40 minCHF 30
41–80 minCHF 60
81 min+By arrangement

The supplement covers both my travel time and travel costs. The applicable band is confirmed together with the lesson location, and any supplement is invoiced with that lesson. For locations beyond the furthest band, we’ll agree an approach case by case. This may be a bespoke arrangement or a switch to online lessons, whichever works better.

4. Prices and payment

Lesson and package prices are those shown on the lesson options page of this website. The price that applies to a booking is the one displayed at the time you book; later changes to the published prices do not affect lessons or packages already booked and paid for unless a different price has been agreed with you in writing. All prices are in Swiss francs (CHF).

Single lessons and packages are paid in full before the lesson or package begins. Travel supplements are not included in the up-front fee and are invoiced per lesson once the location is confirmed (see section 3.3). Package lessons must be used within their validity period:

  • 5-lesson package: valid for 8 weeks from the first lesson;
  • 10-lesson package: valid for 16 weeks from the first lesson.

KARA TEACH is a small business and is not currently registered for Swiss VAT, so no VAT is charged on lesson fees.

5. Cancellations, rescheduling, and no-shows

Plans change, and short-notice moves are usually fine. The notice periods below let me keep time fairly reserved for everyone.

  • 48 hours or more before the lesson: reschedule free of charge.
  • 24–48 hours before: a late rescheduling fee of CHF 30 may apply.
  • Less than 24 hours before, or a no-show: the lesson may be charged in full.

In exceptional circumstances (e.g., sudden illness, a family emergency, etc.), I’ll always try to find a reasonable solution rather than apply a fee.

5.1 If I need to cancel

If I have to cancel a lesson due to exceptional circumstances (e.g., through illness), you’ll be offered a make-up lesson at a mutually convenient time, or a credit toward a future lesson. Where practical, I may offer to move the lesson online rather than cancel it.

5.2 Lateness

If a student arrives late, the lesson still ends at the scheduled time so that following lessons aren’t affected. If I arrive late, the missed time is made up, either within the same session or added to a later one.

6. Packages: refunds and transfers

Unused package lessons are not refundable in cash. However, at my discretion and in exceptional circumstances, I may extend a package’s validity or credit unused lessons toward future tutoring.

Unused lessons at the end of the validity period may also be transfered within the immediate family, provided the tutoring remains a sensible fit for the student.

7. Between-lesson question support

Active package students may add between-lesson question support for short, focused questions: one problem, one step, one concept, or a quick revision decision. I reserve the right to defer to booking a lesson if the extent of the inquiry exceeds a standard question.

This support:

  • is available only to students on an active package, and runs for the same period as that package;
  • aims to reply within 24 hours on school days, excluding weekends and public holidays;
  • is there to guide the student’s own thinking, not to complete assignments for them.

8. Materials

Teaching materials are included unless agreed otherwise. Students are welcome and encouraged to bring their own school materials, homework, notes, mock exams, or exam specifications, as lessons work best when built around them.

9. Working with students under 18 (safeguarding)

I take responsibility for making tutoring a safe, professional experience for young people. In practice:

  • Lessons in my home take place only with the knowledge of a parent or guardian. I’m comfortable with a parent being present or nearby, or checking in, and welcome it.
  • Where practical, lessons may be held in public or semi-public settings (such as a library, or the family’s home with someone else present).
  • I do not transport students or share lifts, and I do not carry on private, off-platform messaging with a student who is a minor. Communication about lessons runs through the parent or guardian, or a shared channel they can see.
  • I keep to a professional setting at all times. References and teaching credentials are available upon request, including my Swedish teaching certification (Lärarlegitimation). A current extract from the Swiss criminal record (Strafregisterauszug) can also be provided to families on request.

9.1 Recording of online lessons

Lessons are not recorded by default. If a student or parent would specifically like a lesson recorded (e.g., for later review) this can be arranged. Any such recording is shared only with the student and parent and is not used for any other purpose.

10. Conduct

Lessons depend on mutual respect. I’ll always treat students and families with patience and courtesy, and ask the same in return. I reserve the right to end the tutoring arrangement in the case of abusive or inappropriate behaviour.

11. No guarantee of outcomes

Tutoring is designed to support a student’s understanding, confidence, and progress over time. It cannot, and does not, guarantee any particular grade, exam result, or admission outcome, as these depend on many factors beyond the lessons themselves.

12. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, KARA TEACH’s liability arising from the tutoring service is limited to the amount paid for the lesson or package in question. Nothing in these terms limits liability where it cannot lawfully be limited.

13. Data protection

I collect only the information needed to arrange and deliver tutoring. This typically includes the contact details you provide through the contact form or by email (such as a parent or student name and email address) or the information you share to help me prepare (such as year group, curriculum, or the current topic).

This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry, arrange lessons, and provide tutoring. It is not sold or shared with third parties, except where I’m legally required to do so.

KARA TEACH handles personal data in line with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP). You may ask what data I hold about you, and request that it be corrected or deleted, at any time by emailing contact@karatea.ch.

14. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. The version in force is the one published here at the date of your booking, shown by the last updated date above.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by Swiss law. The courts of the Canton of Zurich have jurisdiction over any dispute, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection provisions that apply.
