Frequently Asked Questions
What subjects and levels do you teach?
Mathematics, mainly at high-school and international-school level. I'm a Swedish-qualified upper-secondary maths teacher and have taught the subject full-time since 2022. Music theory or singing support is possible by request, but mathematics is the offer.
Do you teach IB students?
Yes. Tell me the exact course (AA or AI, SL or HL) and the school before we book, so I can make sure the support fits the syllabus and the materials your child is actually working from.
What if my child follows a different curriculum?
Usually fine. The underlying mathematics is the same across curricula; the course specification tells me what's assessed and how it needs to be shown. If a course genuinely isn't a good fit for me, I'll say so at the intro call rather than take the booking.
Do you help with Gymnasium preparation?
Yes! Particularly strengthening core mathematics, reasoning, and confidence under time pressure. Requirements vary by canton and school pathway, so we'll confirm the exact scope from your child's current materials before starting.
What language are lessons in?
English or Swedish. My German is still basic, so I don't teach in German. Worth knowing if your child's maths is taught in German: the mathematics translates, but the exam wording won't be in a language I can help with yet.
Where do in-person lessons take place?
At your home, in a suitable public study space such as a library, or at my home in Dietikon by arrangement. Online lessons are available anywhere in Switzerland. The location is chosen lesson by lesson. It isn't fixed for a whole package.
Do you travel outside Zurich?
Zurich city, Schlieren and Dietikon are covered at the standard rate. Further out, I'll either suggest online or you get notified about the travel supplement before you book — never after. The full definition is in the Terms & Conditions.
What do we need for online lessons?
A quiet space, a stable connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. A laptop or tablet works far better than a phone. Some way of showing written work helps: a phone propped over the page, or a photo sent before the lesson.
How does the first lesson work?
We start with whatever the student brings: recent homework, notes, a test that went badly. For the first stretch I mostly listen and ask questions. I want to see how they think, not just what they got wrong. Students usually leave with one thing properly understood and a clear idea of what we'd tackle next.
How do we get started?
Book a free intro call on the contact page. Fifteen minutes to hear the situation and tell you honestly whether I'm the right person. After that you can book a single lesson from availability, or buy a package from lesson options and book each lesson with the code you receive.
How much do lessons cost, and when do I pay?
All rates are listed on the lesson options page: single lessons, five- and ten-lesson packages, and holiday intensives, priced for 60 or 90 minutes, in person or online. Prices are in Swiss francs and no VAT is charged. Lessons and packages are paid by card before they begin.
Do we have to commit to a package?
No. Single lessons exist for exactly that reason: try one, see how your child responds, decide afterwards. There's no minimum commitment and no notice period. Packages are for families who want a rhythm, not a way of locking anyone in.
What if we don't use all the lessons in a package?
Packages are valid for a set window. 8 weeks for five lessons, 16 weeks for ten. Unused lessons aren't refunded once it closes. They can be transferred within the family, so a sibling can use them. If something genuinely disruptive happens, tell me; I'd rather find a sensible solution than point at a clause. Full terms are in the Terms & Conditions.
What is your cancellation policy?
Most lessons can be moved free of charge with at least 48 hours' notice, with reduced flexibility for later changes. The full policy sits in lesson options and the Terms & Conditions.
What happens if you have to cancel?
You're not charged, and we rearrange. A package lesson goes straight back into your balance. If I'm unwell but able to teach, I may offer to move the lesson online rather than lose the slot. That's always your choice, not a substitution I make on your behalf.
My child is under 18 — how does that work?
The booking and the agreement are with you as the parent or guardian, and you're welcome to be present or nearby at any in-person lesson. Lessons take place at your home, in a public study space, or at my home by arrangement. I don't record lessons by default, and never without your agreement. Details are in the Terms & Conditions.
Can you guarantee better grades?
No, and I'd honestly be cautious of anyone who does. What I can commit to is an honest read of where your child actually stands, specific feedback, and telling you plainly if I don't think tutoring is the thing that will help. Progress depends on the work between lessons as much as the work in them.
How will I know it's working?
You'll hear from me. After the first couple of lessons I'll tell you what I've found and what I think we should work on. After that, I'll say so if progress stalls or if I think we should stop. Your child's own tests and homework are the honest measure, not my impression of how a lesson went.
Can students ask questions between lessons?
Yes! Active package students can add between-lesson support for short, focused questions: one problem, one step, one concept, or a quick revision decision. Anything bigger we can discuss during a lesson.
Why do you include AI in study support?
Because banning it teaches nothing. I'd rather show students how to use AI for hints, second explanations, and checking a step while the reasoning stays their own. That judgement is a skill, and it transfers directly to exams, where no tools are allowed.
Do you offer small group lessons or sibling discounts?
Not at launch. Everything is one-to-one. For now, sibling arrangements are quoted individually, so get in touch if that's what you need and we will find a solution.
